The RM of Hanover comprises the communities of Mitchell, Grunthal, Kleefeld, Blumenort and New Bothwell. Filled with Agri-tourism, quaint accommodations, unique shopping, restaurants, and bakeries, this part of Eastern Manitoba will fulfill your small-town fix.  In Grunthal, take in the Hanover Ag Fair (August), the June Classic Demolition Derby, and Spring Rodeo in May.  Don’t miss the Honey Festival and Canadian Food Challenge Chili Competition that happens every August in Kleefeld and the Farmer’s Market all summer long.  Be sure to take in the Mitchell Fun and Fair Days that take place every July. Visit Blumenort and sign up to be an audience member at the nationally televised, Marc & Mandy Show. Here, you can also take in the Fun & Fair Days each June. The award-winning Bothwell Cheese is sure to please.  Buy all your favourites at their retail store or take in the Cheese & Wine Festival each June.  Visit Randolph to see the historic sites of Chortitz Church and book your event at the Neufeld Garage. You can shop until you drop at Oakridge Garden Centre. Take the family to the splash park in Blumenort and baseball tournaments in the summer or to a hockey game at one of their many rec centres. Not to mention a GMX Motocross track and outdoor pool in Grunthal, some of the best fall suppers, bird watching, or trails to hike or bike.

Historically, the RM is an area slightly larger than the area set aside as a Mennonite reserve in 1874. This tract of land was referred to as the East Reserve. In 1880 the province organized the area as a municipality and named it Hespeler, after the man who brought the first settlers to the area in 1873.  In 1881 the whole province was reorganized, and on May 25 the East Reserve was separated into two municipalities, Hespeler and Hanover. The northern three townships remained as Hespeler and the southern five townships became the municipality of Hanover.  In 1890 the municipalities of Hespeler and Hanover were merged to create Hanover, as it is known today.  The area was settled by five different ethnic groups – Mennonites, Ukrainians, German Lutherans, French and Anglo Saxon.
