Prairie Gal Fishing

Come on, gals! It’s time to get your fishing on! At Prairie Gal Fishing, women and novice anglers can learn the ropes of ice fishing in a safe, empowering, and warm environment!

Prairie Gal Fishing was started by avid angler and prairie girl Roselle Turenne, whose mission is to inspire and empower women in fishing and help bring gender parity on the water; along with creating a safe and comfortable environment for women and novices to learn to fish in Manitoba; and to introduce or reintroduce adult women to the sport of ice fishing in Manitoba.

Through Prairie Gal Fishing’s lessons, you can learn how to ice fish along Lake Winnipeg in Balsam Bay Marina in a heated shack with all the equipment you need! Lessons will include:

• Operating an auger
• Selecting tackle, knots, baiting the hook, rod and line choice and more
• Fish Identification and fish handling
• Electronics, bottom structure and basic fish location techniques
• Other information as requested (setting up a tent, fire starting, etc.)

Snowmobiling in Beausejour

Are you ready for a thrilling ride? Not only is Beausejour surrounded by beautiful scenery, but did you know you can even snowmobile in the town limits? Snowmobiles and ATVs are permitted to operate on all residential streets in Beausejour (excluding Park Avenue and First Street North).

Here are the regulations:

• Snowmobile/ATVs are permitted to operate on all residential streets, EXCLUDING Park Avenue and First Street North.
• Snowmobile/ATVs may share the roadways with other vehicular traffic, PROVIDING that all the regulations of the Criminal Code, the Highway Traffic Act, the Off-Road Vehicles Act, and the By-Law are adhered to.
• Snowmobile/ATV traffic is only permitted on snow-covered residential streets between October 15th and April 15th of the following year
• Snowmobile/ATVs shall not be operated within the community of Beausejour between the hours of 11:00 pm and 7:00 am.
• Maximum speed of 50 KPH shall apply.
