With Christmas just days away most of us are scurrying around finishing up the list of chores and tasks to accomplish before the guests arrive and Good Ole Saint Nick gives your Chimney a good sweep. We’re doing it with an added bounce in our step; the excitement of the holiday season and being with our loved ones bubbling beneath the brim.

Once the hugs and stories have been exchanged and you have all had your fill of turkey and eggnog, it’s time to get out of the house, or hotel, and have an adventure or two.

1. Let the Dogs do the Work

Harness Adventure will take you on a dogsledding adventure that you and your guests will talk about for years. Your experience will include a welcome into Adventure Headquarters, where the mushers and your dog team will greet you. After you spend some time getting to know the dogs and learning about the sport of dogsledding, you will embark on a sled ride with your musher for a 3 km run through the woods. Upon your return, you can help care for the dogs and warm up with light refreshments by the fire.

2. Giggle All the Way

Let Havenwood’s Horses take you and your guests on a horse-drawn sleigh ride that will make your holiday season bright and cheery! Get up close and personal with these massive, majestic animals that are sure to put a smile on everyone’s face. Enjoy the hour long trail ride, with up to 12 of your closest friends and family, giggling all the way as you share stories and take in the scenery. Afterwards, warm up by the fire with some hot chocolate.

3. Explore the Great Outdoors

Whiteshell Provincial Park is full of adventures just waiting to happen! Depending on where your interests lie, enjoy hiking, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, snowmobiling, horseback riding and sleigh rides,  wildlife viewing, snowball fights, and so much more all through the park. Gather all your friends and family and head out to create your own adventure in our backyard. 4. Hit the Slopes

Don’t let the lack of snow stop you from hitting the slopes! Eastern Manitoba is home to two awesome downhill skiing locations, both with snow-making capabilities so that you have the best slopes to run. Falcon Lake Resort is an old school little ski resort hidden in the woods of the Whiteshell Provincial Park on the shores of Falcon Lake, Manitoba. Best enjoyed over a couple of days to give yourself, and your friends, plenty of time to catch all the action of Alpine and Nordic skiing, tubing, snowboarding, skating, snowshoeing, live music, good food, ping pong, crokinole, and so much more. If your just looking for a quick day trip, Spring Hill Winter Sports Park is the perfect place for a couple of hours of skiing or snowboarding. Don’t worry if you’ve never been skiing before, lessons and instructors are available at both sites.

5. Drop a Line

Ice fishing has always been a great winter pastime, but for the past couple of years, it has really been gaining popularity throughout the province. The needed equipment is relatively inexpensive and, with the above seasonal temperatures we’ve been having, you probably won’t even need a shelter. Eastern Manitoba has an abundance of waterways to choose from – all you need to do is pick one close to home or in a community near you where you can try your luck at ice fishing and explore a great new community.
