Take a break from your daily to-dos and try out some of these exciting events and workshops to wind down. Get ready for Christmas while having fun at craft sales or put that personal touch to your Elf on the Shelf at the Beausejour workshop. Relax with your friends and family at one of the venues holding live music with very talented artists. Or, test your survival skills at one of the Wilderness classes.
Pennyweight Market has invited local talent Mama’s Got a Glue Gun to co-host this fun workshop! In this workshop, they will show you how to create adorable accessories, and props for your elves all the while enjoying hot chocolate and cookies. They will also share ideas on how to make this year’s elf adventures a hit.
Wilderness Safety & Survival is a five-day adventure that will give you a new perspective on life and survival. We will have two days of advanced survival instruction which leads to a three-day solo survival adventure. Passive survival is the name of the game and advanced techniques will be introduced. You will experience some or all of the enemies of survival.
Everyone, get ready because on November 27th Chris Carmichael is playing live at The Listening Room!
People describe Chris Carmichael’s music as meaty, rocking alt-country with a heap of blues. His haunting guitar tone recalls open Prairie skies, endless dusty highways and long, hazy nights. In short: Amazing!
Chris “Chopper” Carmichael is well-known for lending his undeniable guitar skill and incredible tone. His most recent recorded work can be heard on Ken Kansas’s 2019 release, ‘Ragged Poetry’ and Lynn Hanson’s 2017 release, ‘Uneven Ground’. This past September, he is shared the stage with Steve Mariner of Juno Award-Winning Monkeyjunk and Lindsay Beaver of The 24th Street Wailers.
Enjoy an evening of Hot Chocolate and Cold Stories. Join professional storyteller Mary Louise Chown to hear the tale of a man who wintered in a bear’s den. Join the storytelling and share one of your own cold-weather stories. Mary Louise Chown has told stories across Canada, in Australia, and Great Britain to all ages. She believes that the tradition of telling stories is sacred, and has co-founded the Manitoba Storytelling Guild.
Back by popular demand, the Janelle Nadeau Ensemble will bring two gorgeous harps, six unusual medieval instruments and her angelic voice to deliver sweet arrangements of Christmas tunes. A mystical experience you’ll never forget!
Janelle Nadeau is a versatile harpist and educator who enjoys performing in a variety of venues from home concerts to Orchestras. She is based in Vancouver but is a prairie girl at heart, being raised on a grain farm in Manitoba.
In 2016, Janelle founded the Nadeau Ensemble, creating a new holiday tradition which is what she will bring to Pinawa on November 29th. Her recently released holiday album “Star of Night” has received international praise and has been referred to as a new holiday classic.
Whether working or playing in the wilderness, this course, Wildlife Awareness & Predator Safety, is a must. Predators can be a real threat especially to the sick, injured, young, and for dogs accompanying humans in the wild. Most remote cabins, lodges, and workers have non-lethal and lethal ways of protecting themselves from aggressive animals. It pays to be prepared. Become acquainted with the major animal groups of the Boreal forest and learn which are nuisances, harmless, and possibly dangerous. Learn what to do to avoid a dangerous encounter, and how to react should you encounter a dangerous animal.
If you plan to (or might) be on the ice this winter, our Cold Water Immersion course will prepare you for possible – and all too deadly – danger of falling through.
If you’re going to travel on the ice, you better be prepared to go through it! Knowing your reaction could make all the difference! Practice in a real-world environment (it ain’t a pool, and those are your regular ol’ clothes) under safe and controlled conditions with professional instructors.
