We have so many wonderful events coming up this week in Eastern Manitoba, that we don’t know how you are going to decide what to do! Explore the great outdoors in one of our parks with some great interpretive sessions this week, or sit back and relax while you catch a movie, take in a yoga class or learn about Latvian history in our province. No matter what you choose, your heart will be beating in Eastern Manitoba this week!
The Listening Room is very excited to have Cohen Sieg play at our venue on July 24th!
Cohen Sieg, a 17-year-old singer, songwriter and musician from Sieg’s Corner, Manitoba. He has been writing and performing for the past 7 years, playing at festivals, small events and open mics all across Canada. His musical style is pop/folk, but he’s also known to play a variety of songs from genres such as country, rock and a bit of blues. He performs as a solo musician, but with the help of his looper, he sounds like he has a full band backing him up.
He has a passion for music that is undeniable, and you can hear it in his songs, such as his independently released single “Goodbye”, and his covers such as Treat You Better, In the Air Tonight and Attention. With his much-anticipated album in the works, it seems as though nothing is going to slow him down!

The St. John’s Heritage Church & Arts Centre has the amazing opportunity and pleasure to feature Ves Zarins’, from Toronto Ontario, book launch! The book is Latvian Pioneers, Socialists and Refugees in Manitoba –An illustrated journey through the history of Latvians in Manitoba.
The Latvians migrated to Manitoba from Brazil and the United States. Latvian families took up homesteads in Libau, Lettonia, Newcombe, Lee River, Bird River, and Sifton areas from the early 1900s to the 1930s.
Today, Lac du Bonnet is still home to many descendants of these Latvian immigrants, with the largest Latvian population in Western Canada. Ves Zarins has captured the history and culture of Lac du Bonnet’s Latvian Pioneers, preserving and sharing it with us through his book.
Put your tree ID knowledge to the test as you bike through the forest with a Park Interpreter at the Foresters Footsteps Guided Bike Ride. Be sure to bring your bike and helmet! Helmets are mandatory for riders under 18. Location: Foresters Footsteps Trail. Interpretive events are free for everyone to attend! Children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
Mud Hero is the most fun you’ll ever have covered head-to-toe in mud. Take on the muddiest challenge ever and crank your adrenaline as you push yourself and your fellow Heroes to cross the finish line, smiling every inch of the way. Celebrate your achievement with other mud-lovers and spectators at the on-site post-race Mud Bash, with a barbecue, bevies, DJ and more. If you’re mad about mud – or just plain mad – this is the event for you!
