Get ready for your next adventure! The Eastman Region is bursting with amazing events and activities for you or the whole family to enjoy. Take advantage of the beautiful weather at one of the outdoor events happening all over like the Lac du Bonnet Ice Fishing Derby, The Floppet, or at the 2020 Manitoba Winter Mega Run! Or stay indoors where you can listen to live music in Pinawa with Twin Flames, test your knowledge at Quiz Night in Beausejour, or even get into the market spirit at the Southeast Farmer’s Market!

Wilderness Safety & Survival Level 3

February 24 & 25 – ICSOS – Alexander

ICSOS’ Wilderness Safety & Survival training program is a progressive set of courses that aim to develop your skills and confidence in the wilderness, and specifically should you find yourself in a survival situation.

Level 3 – Overnight Survival
Get a real taste of survival! Imagine building your own survival shelter, sitting around a crackling fire that you built, watching the stars, and sipping on hot wild rose hip tea. Those are only a few of the things you will do during this course. Spend two full days and one night in a beautiful wilderness setting, learning to survive. Definitely a weekend you won’t forget! So you think you have enough firewood to last the night?

Wilderness Advanced First Aid

February 25 to 28 – ICSOS – Alexander

Wilderness Advanced First Aid is a course for those who work, explore, or play in isolated or wilderness settings.

At ICSOS, we go beyond WMA’s curriculum by including an overnight patient care scenario for realism and add additional emphasis on casualty extrication methods.

Stories Under Your Skin

February 25 – St. John’s Heritage Church & Arts Centre – Lac du Bonnet

Discover the power and meaning of life stories (our personal histories) as part of the larger history of humankind with professional storyteller Mary Louise Chown during Stories Under Your Skin! The ancient medium of storytelling is even more relevant today. No special equipment is needed; only your voice. Learn how to tap into this accessible form of communication to enhance your skills for both your personal and professional life.

Nature Detectives Preschool Programs

February 26 – Nimowin Trail – Bird’s Hill Provincial Park

During Nature Detectives, your little ones can enjoy fun games, crafts, songs and a healthy snack while learning more about the outdoors and discover the animals and plants that call Birds Hill Provincial Park their home.

on February 26, discover the tiny animals that live under the snow during the winter and how they use the snow to help them survive. Look for their tracks on a guided walk on part of Nimowin Trail.

An Evening with Twin Flames

February 28 – Pinawa Community Centre – Pinawa

MCA is delighted to present Twin Flames!

Despite polar opposite backgrounds Twin Flames found a common musical language. This captivating duo combines two award-winning unique singer-songwriters Jaaji an Inuk Mohawk from Quqtaq, Nunavik and Chelsey June, an Algonquin Cree Métis from Ottawa.

Twin Flames takes the audience on a musical journey across Canada and the Arctic, they echo the voices of their ancestors and depict life on the land as they sing songs in English, Inuttitut and French. They leave audiences fascinated, intrigued and inspired.

LDB ICE Fishing Derby

February 29 – Town Dock – Lac du Bonnet

Test your luck at the 14th Annual Lac du Bonnet Ice Fishing Derby where size doesn’t matter! With their hidden length and time derby, all you have to do is catch a fish for your chance to walk away with $10,000 cash. In fact, you don’t even have to catch a fish at all to be able to win one of their amazing randomly drawn prizes!

Always fun and full of surprises, the Lac du Bonnet Ice Fishing Derby is a great way to get out and enjoy one of Manitoba’s favorite winter pass-times. Master Anglers, professional fishers, fishing enthusiasts, and families alike all have a great time out on the ice!

Floppet: Falcon Lake Loppet 2020

February 29 – Falcon Ridge Ski Slopes – Falcon Lake

The Floppet is an unique nordic ski race will wind through the wild and majestic woods of the boreal forest that surround the ski hill. The trails are well known for their pristine groomed condition, great scenery, and lots of elevation changes. Participants will have the option to choose either classic or skate technique and from three different race distances: The Minnow Kids Race (1.7 km), The Bass (7.5 km), The Walleye (17.5 km), and The Northern Pike (35 km).

Along the way, participants will have the chance to stop at various festive check-points to indulge in some authentic Whiteshell culture. On Saturday night there will be a celebration feast and concert in the chalet by a local Winnipeg band.

The event is very much geared towards spectators so bring your friends and family! There will be plenty of things for them to do during the whole weekend such as tubing, skating, downhill skiing and snowboarding at the ski hill.

Land Navigation – Level 1

February 29 to March 1 – ICSOS – Alexander

Level 1 of Land Navigation instills the foundation of knowledge necessary for Land Navigation. You will learn how to read and interpret Canadian Topographic Maps, effectively use a compass, and access the Global Positioning System (GPS) for verification and back-up of skills.

Day 1 will focus on the theoretical training of map & compass as well as practical demonstrations and activity, finishing with a short exercise to prepare for day 2.

Day 2 will spend a short time learning to use a GPS Receiver, however most of the day will be spent out in the woods practicing and honing our navigational skills.

2020 Manitoba Winter Mega Run

February 29 – Seddons Corner – Reynolds

The 2019 Mega Run was epic with their best attendance yet. If you missed it make sure you don’t miss this one as it’s going to be even bigger and better! Open to all groups, clubs and public so bring your friends, family and neighbors. Stock friendly but be prepared to get stuck if you are! ATVs/SXS and sleds are welcome but please be responsible and mindful of the 500+ full size rigs and hundreds of people.
