Celebrate Earth Day with Nature Detectives Preschool Program – Growing Up Green. Plant a seed and watching it grow. Discover what seeds need to help them grow and how they can grow food for us to eat. Enjoy a guided walk on part of Nimowin Trail to look for different kinds of seeds in the forest. Enjoy fun games, crafts, songs and a healthy snack while learning more about the outdoors and discover the animals and plants that call Birds Hill Park their home. The program takes place at the Interpretive Workshop, located at the end of Nimowin Road. Programs are FREE. Younger siblings welcome.
Enjoy an evening with Annie Sumi, Matt Foster, and Friends at this house concert event. Annie Sumi is an Ontario-based ethereal-folk artist with a sound shaped by varied musical influences, from Joni to Feist to Nick Drake, and a dash of mystical songstress Kate Bush emerging in her latest album, In the Unknown. Sumi’s music has been played all across Canada on CBC and community radio and earned critical acclaim and numerous accolades. She’s also a member of the award-winning folk/jazz quartet, The Hidden Roots Collective, recently nominated for a Canadian Folk Music Award.

Meet up at the LdB Library for an evening of Celebrating Stories and Music. Stories presented by Brenda McKenzie, an artist, and author from Pinawa. Her illustrations are seen in Peggy Halstead's book “Teddy 'n' Me.” Her novel “Loving You” follows a couple who become caregivers to the family matriarch who has developed dementia. Their journey answers the question, “What next?” Music will be presented by Hannah Leigh Strachan and her students from Vivo Harmonics Music. Hannah has been a music instructor for over 10 years and has experience playing/ performing on over ten different instruments, but chooses to focus mainly on piano, vocals, and songwriting. Hannah believes strongly in the importance of individualized instruction and works hard to create a flexible and fun learning environment where all students will grow as musicians and learn to love music in their own way.
DIY Oatmeal Packs have been taking over the breakfast world. Pennyweight Market is going to help you jump on board with this time saving, delicious and healthy way to start any day with the DIY Oatmeal Packs Craft & Coffee workshop. Children can create a week's worth of their own unique instant oatmeal combinations, and do some crafting at the same time. We will have a DIY oatmeal station set up, with a variety of dried fruit, grains and spice options from our store. Oatmeal packets can be embellished with stickers and stamps. Children are the chefs, in charge of making up healthy breakfast options.
Library Allard has organized its fourth annual Kickass Women’s Day. It will be held at the Powerview School gymnasium on Saturday, April 21st, 2018 from 10:00am—3:00pm. What is a Kickass Women’s Day? Well it is designed to connect women, young and young at heart with medical information booths, community information booths, vendors showcasing products and services aimed at women’s interests, spa treatments, a guest speaker on wellness and interactive demonstrations. Basically become Queen for a Day and allow your loved ones to have access to items that can assist you throughout the year.
Other opportunities: Silent auction; 50/50; Door prize draw; Healthy food and beverages available for purchase at the school canteen. There is no charge to enter the event or to take part in the relaxation sessions; gratuity jars will be available at the relaxation sessions; a silver collection will be set up at the front area. Sign up sheets for the spa sessions are available in advance at the library.
