1. The Beauty of the Beaches

In and around the RM of Alexander are the breathtaking Beaches of 59. With Fall just around the corner, you might be wondering why beaches would be on this list. Beaches of 59 are more than just splashing in the water and playing in the sand; they are a world of opportunities for outdoor adventures, activities, and unique shops and artists.

From visiting Elk Island and Grand Beach Provincial Parks to hit the trails by hiking, biking, skiing, or snowmobiling to finding the perfect spot to ice fish, you can still have a fantastic fall and wintery time at the beach! You can also curl, ice skate, snowshoe, snowmobile, ski, or even go sledding in the winter months.

For now, you can enjoy exploring the many trails available at the beaches and experience the leaves change colours; take full advantage of the incredible photo opportunities along the water; hunker down and go bird watching; take your ATV out for a spin and much and much more!

2. The Red River North Trail Adventure

In the RM of Alexander is one point where you can travel the Red River North Trail – a trail that is 225+ km and stretches across nine municipalities, towns, and cities. The trail travels north from the city of Winnipeg (at the perimeter and Henderson Hwy) to Birds Hill Provincial Park, along the floodway to cross the Locks and Dam at Lockport; north along River Road to historic Lower Fort Garry; travelling through the city of Selkirk, crossing the bridge and heading northeast through East Selkirk and Tyndall; turning north through the Mars Sand Hills, past Gull Lake, Beaconia, and the beaches—passing through Grand Marias, Grand Beach and Lester Beach, through Belair, then travelling north to Traverse Bay, to turn South on the Belair Forest trails and to Powerview-Pine Falls and ending at the Great Falls Dam with the Blue Water South Trail.

The trail is a mix of grass, gravel, dirt and pavement and easy for all skill levels. Whether you want to hike, bike, or saddle up the horse, you can take in the natural beauty on the trail. Even in the winter months, you can explore while skiing, snowmobiling, or snowshoeing.

3. The Mouthwatering Le Gouter

Are you dying to have some Crêpes? At Le Gouter, you can enjoy a fantastic Crêpey meal, whether you want a classic, sweet, savoury, or wild. You can even design and devour your own created and design recipe of Crêpe.  They also offer a variety of other menu items like hot sandwiches, pizza, burgers, salad, hotdogs, and more, so the whole family can enjoy!

Don’t forget about dessert! From soft and hard served ice cream to specialty treats like sundaes, banana splits, floats, and more, you can happily satisfy your sweet tooth.

4. Travelling Through the Pass at the Winnipeg River Heritage Museum

At the Winnipeg River Heritage Museum, the story of the Winnipeg River and the significant role it played in the development of Manitoba, and Canada, is told.

For the First Nations, and later on the fur trade, the Winnipeg River was used as an east-west trade and travel route. It was no easy task to navigate and brave the fast-moving water that would also have waterfalls, forcing travellers to portage around.

Soon settlements started to be built along the river. The natural resources that surrounded the river created the perfect location for up and coming communities.

There is much to be learned about the Winnipeg River, the communities around it, and the roles they played in moving Canada forward into what it is today. The Winnipeg River Heritage Museum works hard in telling those stories, in teaching you the steps that were taken.

The museum has artifacts, family memories that have been shared with them (and in turn with you), and many stories that paints a picture of importance.

5. Connecting with Nature at McArthur Falls

From magnificent waterways, the tranquil environment, and the abundance of wildlife, McArthur Falls is sure to amaze the nature lover in you. The site is home to a generating stating. The station was constructed between 1952 and 1955, making it the newest of the six generating stations operating on the Winnipeg River.

Don’t forget your fishing rods! The Winnipeg River is a fantastic body of water to fish, and you can at McArthur Falls. Try your hand at catching Walleye, Northern Pike, Goldeye, Perch, Bass, Channel Cat, Lake White Fish, and Crappie
