While things may not be back to normal quite yet, it is looking like we are heading in the right direction in Manitoba. With phase one of Manitoba Reopening, some of our favorite businesses and outdoor recreation facilities will be opening once again – and just in time for the warm summer days that are upon us.

Here are 5 Outdoor Recreation Activities that are now open! For a full list of business reopening during phase one, please visit the Government of Manitoba’s website.

*Disclaimer* Time in nature has not been cancelled, but we must be responsible for helping everyone stay safe and healthy! Here are some guidelines to follow while exploring your community:

  • Stay home if you have been travelling or do not feel well. Here is an excellent resource if you are quarantined. This will help you find people in Manitoba who are willing and able to help you while quarantined. Help Next Door Manitoba
  • Go out with people within your household, but practice social distancing (2 metres away) with other groups.
  • Stay within your community. Please do not travel to other communities.
  • Please practice Leave No Trace. Clean up after yourself and leave nothing behind such as trash and waste.
  • Check with your local municipality if play structures in parks and schools are open.
  • Social distancing can be easier in rural communities because we live farther apart from each other. If you live in a condo or apartment, please follow the guidelines provided to you to ensure you keep your social distance from your neighbours.

Campsites

Is there anything more relaxing than camping? You get to sit back by a bonfire, grill some good food, experience nature and wildlife, spend time with your friends and family, and there’s always something new to discover. Whether you’re taking the RV or setting up a tent, you don’t want to miss out on the Eastman camping adventure!

Head out to one of the many privately-owned campgrounds for a night, day, or whole week packed full of fun. With pools, hot tubs, golf courses, and other unique activities, you definitely won’t be bored! For a list of privately-owned campsites in Manitoba, visit www.macap.ca.

There are also some designated campgrounds in select provincial parks! Visit prspub.gov.mb.ca for information on provincial park camping.

Golf Courses

Whether you want lakeside scenery, boreal beauty, or stunning Canadian Shield landscape while golfing, you can find it in the Eastern Region of Manitoba! With a wide selection of courses that range from classic to new layouts that are perfect for any skill level. The only hard part is picking where to start!

Museums

You might be surprised by how much history your local community has! Your local museum works hard to tell the story of the early beginnings of your home and the steps made to reach how it is now.

Parks

Provincial parks are slowly reopening! Sort of. While campgrounds in provincial parks are opening, visitor centres and museums will be remaining closed; however, from May to June, Park Interpreters are offering many virtual programs daily online! Check out their upcoming programs on their website.

As for playgrounds and skate parks, you will need to check with your local municipality whether they will be reopening.

Riding Stables

Have you been missing going out on the trails by horseback? Or maybe, you’ve been cooped up in your house for so long that you want to try something new and exciting? Head out to a local stable for a riding lesson or trail ride and learn about proper horse care, grooming, and techniques.
