Birds Hill Provincial Park
If you spend your free time in nature, then Birds Hill Provincial Park is the place you want to go! From trails, bird viewing locations, to unique plant life thriving in the environment, Birds Hill is a nature enthusiast’s paradise.
The landscape of the park is remarkable with hills, ridges, plant life, and wildlife. The history of how the hills and ridges came to be is fascinating. Ancient glaciers formed them, and while it has long since melted, you can still see evidence of it today. From boulders, erratics, gravel, sand, and even a few beaches, the sight of these glacial “droppings” are truly astonishing.
The plant life and wildlife is abundant at Birds Hill and is the perfect mix of magisterial forest and tranquil, open prairie land. The unique diversify of the land allows for different species of plant life to grow. From aspens intertwined with grassland, to gnarled bur oaks in well-drained areas are the reasons why these areas are known as Aspen/Oak Parkland. While visiting the park, you can experience wetlands in low-lying areas, creating prairie potholes and black spruce/tamarack bogs.
Activities at Birds Hill are plentiful. Whether you want to go birding, hike or bike the trails, cross-country ski, saddle-up and go horseback riding, or even stay the night for some good old fashioned camping. They also offer interpretation programs for a chance to understand nature, wildlife, and the park itself.
