The 13th Annual Lac du Bonnet Ice Fishing Derby is rockin’ the Winnipeg River Feb 23. They have more planned than ever before to make this year’s derby experience one to remember.

“It’s exciting,” says General Manage Cyndie Mitchell. “We have more on-ice activities planned for the kids, more free giveaways, and better random prize packages.”

Sunova Credit Union in Lac du Bonnet is setting up a few activities to entertain the kids. The Rock N Roll Fisherman Todd Longley will be sharing his pro ice fishing expertise and will have his Ice Ridge Reaper taking kids on rides around the area. Recreation Revolution will have their Snow Dogs to drive the kids around as well.

“We’ve developed relationships with some incredible people like Sunova, Todd, Recreation Revolution and sponsors that will add more fun to the experience of our attendees. I think people will like those additions. And, as always, Dave Ogren will be our emcee extraordinaire. Back by popular demand, you could say.” Mitchell said.

The Lac du Bonnet Ice Fishing Derby boasts of a grand prize of $10,000 cash and $20,000 of total cash prizes. These prizes are award by a lotto-style hidden length and time. Each cash prize has a predetermined time and length. The fish closest to the time and length wins the cash prize.

They have well over $25,000 in prize packages that are randomly drawn, so you don’t even have to catch a fish to win. Plus, they always have random on-ice giveaways.

The Lac du Bonnet Ice Fishing Derby is a non-profit organization that puts their proceeds back into the community through grants and paying CVO hours to other local groups who supply volunteers.

“The community support we receive is amazing. Lac du Bonnet is a great place to fish and have a good time.” Mitchell added.
