The Home of Oscar Grubert is what the sign says as you enter.  Originally settled in around 1900, River Hill was a crossroads for the earliest settlers. The first store north of Whitemouth was built in 1920 at the crossroads.  Oscar Grubert’s claim to fame is that during the Depression, he bought and enlarged the existing store. For a while, the community was known as Grubert’s Corner.  The town may be small but its charm is large.  Here they celebrate with jam nights and a chili cook off.  Just east of town is Prairie’s Edge Eco Village.  Their aim is to live simply and cooperatively, in harmony with the natural world. They harness energy from the sun and wind to provide their electricity, grow most of their own food, and build their own homes out of mainly natural or recycled materials.
