Summer is almost over and everyone is busy getting ready for the school year to start, but you still have time to enjoy these great Eastman Region activities and events!. From heritage tours to family festivals and (of course) markets.

Mamawe Ota Askihk – Sharing Life Together Here on Earth

August 19 to 23 – Sandy-Saulteaux Spiritual Centre – Beausejour

Gather with Indigenous and settler allies to reclaim the homegrown, the homespoken, the homebred, and the homemade.

Your week together will include hands-on learning about growing, harvesting and preparing medicines and foods from the land. There will be time for listening, sharing, singing, ceremony and enjoying good food together. You will gather medicines, work in the garden, build drums, make pemmican, ferment vegetables and more.

2nd Annual Lac du Bonnet Night Market

August 22 – Lac du Bonnet

The 2nd Annual Night Market will be held on Third Street in Lac du Bonnet again. Go out for a nice walk and enjoy a night of shopping, food entertainment and fun!

Wolf Howl

August 23 – Whiteshell Provincial Park

Join a Park Interpreter for this special event on the most misunderstood animal in the Whiteshell.

You’ll begin at the Big Whiteshell Campground Amphitheatre to discover the unique grey (timber) wolf and learn how to howl. Then, travel to the Lone Island Lake picnic area to howl and listen for the wolves’ haunting calls.

Coyote’s Wild Adventure Campfire Talk

August 23 – Birds Hill Provincial Park

Help coyote pups as they travel across the forest game board in search of a new lair. Avoid the traps and find food along the way on this wild adventure life-sized board game.

Gardenton Heritage Tour

August 24 – Gardenton

Gardenton, Manitoba, was once a bustling town with 27 businesses. What drew people here? And why did they leave?

Get the full story as you learn about Gardenton’s natural and cultural history with this fun and informative tour that includes the Manitoba Tall Grass Prairie Preserve, Historic St. Michael’s Ukrainian Orthodox Church and Gardenton Ukrainian Museum. See what the first settlers saw when they arrived and find out how they used the local plants to eke out a living on this beautiful land.

Rock the Hill with Streetheart

August 24 – Springhill Winter Sports Park

An outdoor concert featuring Streetheart at Springhill Sports Park. Bring your lawn chairs or picnic blankets for a night of music and fun under the stars!

50th Anniversary Celebration Picnic

August 25 – Roseau River Park

Head over to the Roseau River Park to celebrate the park’s 50th anniversary. Enjoy a day of horseshoe tournaments, baseball, children’s games, face painting, bouncy castle, henna tattoos, 50/50, presentation of park history and reminiscing, chicken BBQ supper, anniversary cake, evening entertainment by Heather Bishop & Quinton Blair, and a fireworks display

Survival Campfire Talk

August 25 – Grand Beach Provincial Park

Do you have what it takes to survive in the wild? Head on over to Grand Beach for Survival Campfire Talk to learn the skills that will improve your chances of survival should you ever become lost in the wilderness.
