Don’t just spend your Louis Riel Weekend at home! There are tons of fun, family-friendly events and activities happening all over the Eastman Region for your family to enjoy.

MHV Winterfest 2020

February 15 – Mennonite Heritage Village Museum – Steinbach

Mennonite Heritage Village Museum is hosting its annual Winterfest! Sit back and relax on a horse-drawn sleigh ride, or try your hand at Crokinole during the Crokinole Tournament. Cuddle up close and listen to stories by special guest, Metis Storyteller – Tibert le Voyageur. There are plenty of games that your kiddos will love to play.

Enjoy the various outdoor activities like snow sculpting, roasting marshmallows, Crokicurl, skating, sledding and best of all – exploring the village!

Fun with Whiteshell Provincial Park

Whiteshell Provincial Park is always bustling with new and exciting events. Spend the Louis Riel weekend attending two of their fantastic events!

Wolf Howl – On February 15, get ready to do some howling! Join a Park Interpreter at Falcon Ridge Ski Slopes to learn about the beautiful and unique timber wolf. Travel to the select location where you’ll get to howl your hearts out and listen for the wolves to sing back.

Ice Fishing at Lyons Lake – On February 17, Whiteshell Provincial Park is throwing on a class to show beginners’ techniques and regulations of ice fishing. Arrive at Lyons Lake to predrilled holes to catch some trout! Don’t have any gear, but you really want to go? No worries! All equipment is provided!

Family Snowshoe Adventure

February 16 – Pinawa Suspension Bridge – Pinawa

What can be a better family activity than snowshoeing in the gorgeous Boreal forest! Take in the breathtaking sights before you, search for animal tracks and learn what animal made them, and create lasting memories for the whole family! Hike off-trail to the outfitter’s tent to warm up with some hot beverages and relax.

Don’t worry if you don’t own any of the required equipment! They also offer snowshoes and poles!

Winter Family Fun Day

February 16 – Lac du Bonnet

Start your morning of activities off with a stomach full of delicious home-made pancakes and coffee, tea, or juice for only a Toonie at St. John’s Heritage Church & Arts Centre.

Then head on out and catch all the events happening in Lac du Bonnet. Hit the trails at Blueberry Rock with snowshoes, or enjoy hanging out by the fire and watch the bannock making! Afterwards, this is the perfect spot for a hotdog and some yummy toasted marshmallows with your family and friends.

And don’t miss the action at the Lac du Bonnet Town Dock where you will find more food and hot chocolate, free skating on the open rink from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM, free horsedrawn sleigh rides by Ridge Creek Ranch from 12:30 PM to 3:00 PM, or participating in, or watching, the silliest of sled races that you can imagine. That’s right, the Wacky Sled Race, full of home-made cardboard sleds of all shapes and sizes will be taking place again this year.

As if that wasn’t enough action for one family packed day, the Community Centre Bowling lanes will be open from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM for free bowling!

When you’re ready to wind down, come back to visit us in the late afternoon at St. John’s Church for a relaxing yoga session.
