St. Michael’s Ukrainian Orthodox Church (Gardenton)

Gardenton is full of rich history and culture, and there is no better example than the St. Michael’s Ukrainian Orthodox Church! St. Michael’s Church is very unique as it was the first permanent Ukrainian Orthodox church in Canada. The church was built in 1899 by northern Bukovyna (now the western Ukraine) immigrants who settled in Gardenton in 1897.

St. Michael’s remains an important symbol showcasing the Ukrainian identity in Canada. The structure’s features and design perfectly display Bukovynian pioneer craftsmanship outside and in.

Your trip to St. Michael’s will be a breathtaking one. Besides the stunning Orthodox church, the grounds that this building calls home is gorgeous. The landscape is a mix of trees, open fields and pastureland making it the perfect place for a peaceful stroll. Explore the old cemetery that is on the grounds and see the range of dates.
