Sagkeeng, means 'the Meeting Place'. The original fort, Fort Alexander was built in 1739 and was the trading place for French explorers and the First Nations.

Sagkeeng, means ‘the Meeting Place’. The original fort, Fort Alexander was built in 1739 and was the trading place for French explorers and the First Nations. The Sagkeeng Cultural Centre Museum contains native contemporary art and handicrafts, and many artifacts that date back hundreds of years.  There is a model of the fort on site;call for directions and hours.
